From control to strength to vulnerability, Kerr found a balance of emotions and gave them authenticity. Despite not being a surgeon, Dr. Portia Robinson, played by General Hospital actress Brook Kerr, brings a fine blade to situations she wants to control. For the sake of her daughter Trina, the mother’s protectiveness put Spencer Cassadine in his place.

Spencer offered to help move Trina’s belongings back into her mother’s house, but Portia politely said, “I’ll take it from here. It was obvious from the tone of the good doctor’s voice that she wasn’t just talking about her daughter’s issues. She drew a line in the sand and told the Cassadine heir he needs to back away from her child because she thinks Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) is bad news for Trina. Spencer realized right away that Portia had probably practiced the arguments she was going to make to support her demand for private time with her daughter. She began by describing how her husband Curtis (Donnell Turner) became paralyzed before quickly adding that the bullet
While it was undoubtedly a pretext to expel Spencer, Kerr had Portia portray the possibility that she and Trina might not feel secure at the Metro Court pool or, to be honest, anywhere else if they become the unintended victims of someone attempting to harm Spencer’s family. But Spencer, you’re not exactly a saint, are you? When he asserted that he was nothing like his late uncle Victor (Charles Shaughnessy), Portia retorted. After wishing Trina good night, Spencer offered to leave and agreed to back down. Kerr kept Portia in a position of power and told the boy that it wasn’t necessary. Chavez chose to have Spencer bid Portia a respectful farewell rather than die on this particular hill.
When Portia was by herself with her daughter, the reality of Curtis’s paralysis tempered her happiness at having Trina to herself. Nevertheless, Portia was happy to see Marshall (Robert Gossett) and was anticipating a fun evening. She was quickly shocked to learn that Trina had snuck out to run an errand. More than just looking out for her daughter, Portia values her family. Especially now that Curtis needs him more than ever, she begged Marshall not to leave. Portia allowed herself to experience a breakdown as Trina was leaving and confided in Marshall her worries that Curtis might spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
Portia bemoaned the fact that Curtis ended up getting shot because of her years of lying about him possibly being Trina’s father. When she told Marshall that Curtis had gone to the rooftop pool to see her, she started to cry. Marshall’s embrace offered comfort to a tearful Portia.
The couple Spencer and Trina, affectionately known as “Sprina” by their devoted fan base, are wildly well-liked. Playing the person who is attempting to keep them apart isn’t always an advantageous position to be in. But Brook Kerr gives Portia a sense of love for her family, which helps us to understand her decisions.
