Home and Away star Emily Symons has been close friends with Ray Meagher for more than 30 years but revealed she once ruined one of the greatest moments of his life.
The Home and Away actress Emily Symons admitted she once destroyed one of Ray Meagher’s greatest moments.
On the Channel 5 soap, the actress, 54, has played Marilyn Chambers since 1989, and Ray, 79, has played Alf Stewart since the first episode, which aired in January 1988.
The lifelong friends from the soap opera attended a number of award shows together, but it was at one of these occasions that tragedy struck.
Speaking about the terrible occurrence before this year’s Logies, Emily admitted she was a touch giddy when Ray was named the Gold Logie winner in 2010.
She dropped a glass of red wine into Ray’s lap by accident as she toasted Ray’s significant victory.
On The Morning Show with Ray in July, she said, “I tipped a glass of wine on his lap just as he had to go up and accept his prize.
The celebrity continued, “So I’m not going to win, but if I do, he might want revenge!”
“Are you going to get me back?” Emily questioned her co-star.
He then remarked, “Perhaps Emily was (so thrilled) and all that and the wine went directly to my crotch and as I was getting up I was kind of trying to dry it out.
Emily chuckled, “I spoiled the best time of his life.
Ray was nominated for the Best Actor award at this year’s Logies, which were held on July 30. Emily was up for the Silver Logie for Best Actress.
Sam Neill, a well-known actor in Hollywood, won the Best Actor award, but Kitty Flanagan won the Best Actress prize.
During the interview, Ray couldn’t help but gush over Emily as he recalled the moment she arrived on the set of Home and Away back in 1989.
“Emily’s character was a breath of fresh air in the Bay,” he said. “She was not like any other character.
“Marilyn has remained exactly the same in terms of her beliefs and how she dressed for her age as the character got older”.
The soap legend continued: “That’s one of the reasons why she is such a success, apart from her amazing comedic timing. And that has remained constant throughout.”
