From 2006 to 2023, Linda Henry played Shirley Carter, while her on-screen son Danny Dyer took over the part of the endearing Mick Carter.
The two collaborated on numerous challenging stories, including Shirley’s second son Dean Wicks (played by Matt Di Angelo) raping Mick’s wife Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and realizing they were mother and son rather than sister and brother.
In December 2022, after Danny had made the decision to quit the soap opera, Charlie Brooks’ character attempted to save Linda after Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) wrecked their car into the water.
Sadly, Mick did not surface after Linda and Janine were able to escape the sea, and he is now thought to be dead.
After losing her son, Shirley made the difficult decision to depart from the Square.
She reconnected with her daughter off-screen, and they have been residing together ever since.
She has, however, previously collaborated with Danny. She and the actor both had small roles in the 2005 crime drama The Business.

Shirley Carter began working on Walford in 2006, however Linda had previously appeared in the soap opera as a different character.
She portrayed Lorraine Salter, Mandy Slater’s unstable mother, in 1991 (Nicola Stapleton).
A few years back, viewers were shocked to learn from a fan on social media that Linda had previously appeared in the soap opera accompanied with a throwback photo.
Before appearing in the soap opera as Shirley, Linda was most known for playing Yvonne Atkins in the movie Bad Girls.
Between 2001 and 2004, she established herself in the role on the show.
After being imprisoned in an underground cell by her arch-enemy Jim Fenner (John Stuart Ellis), her character suffered a horrific demise.
Private union with a committed partner
Linda’s tale is entirely different from Shirley’s, who struggled with relationships on the Square.
Since 1992, the 63-year-old has been wed to her longtime lover Stavros Valiris.
One daughter, who was born the year after the couple’s marriage, is shared by the pair.
Little is known about Linda’s marital or family life, which suggests that she keeps her personal life secret.
