Television viewers in Summer Bay now consider the characters of Sophie Dillman and Patrick O’Connor to be among their favorites.
They went through a lot together on Home and Away, including their slow-burn start, heartbreaking breakup, and amazing reunion.
Outside of the program, though, the real-life equivalents of the made-up pair are likewise committed to one another.
How did Sophie and Patrick meet?
Although the couple initially made their romance public in September 2019, they had been dating for a number of years prior to their soap opera debut.
The two have been pals for eight years, having first met while attending a Queensland acting school.
Sophie became the first cast member to join Home and Away after they both completed their degrees.
She debuted in 2017 as a lady fleeing her past under the name Ziggy Astoni.
The following year, in 2018, Patrick made his debut on the show as a new River Boy from good ole’ Mangrove River.
The bond between their characters started to grow as Dean helped Ziggy get through the dissolution of her marriage to Brody Morgan after learning of his extramarital affair.
How serious is their relationship?
After moving in together in 2020 and getting a cute little puppy, the pair is quite serious about their relationship.
Even though Sydney was placed on lockdown for 14 days, Patrick organized a unique birthday party for Sophie at home.
The actor dressed up as an old school waiter in a red and white striped suit and surprised his partner with a romantic lunch.
Aphrodisiacs were served to the couple while they savored some appetizing-looking oysters.
In a heartfelt birthday tribute, Patrick referred to Sophie as his “number one” and said he couldn’t imagine living “this crazy life” without her.
What have Sophie and Patrick said about their relationship?
According to Sophie, the friendship they shared in the past has helped them collaborate now that they are dating.
She added that since they treat one another like “best mates,” it has also strengthened their bond.
The actress said, “It can be really hard work to make their characters seem natural because their real personalities are so different from their characters.”
