Emmerdale’s Zak Dingle’s funeral is set to air next week and Cain Dingle star Jeff Hordley has teased a major return of a Dingle relative with a cryptic comment

Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain Dingle on Emmerdale, has shared intriguing hints about a surprise return of a family member for Zak Dingle’s funeral.

Next week’s episodes promise to evoke strong emotions as The Dingles receive the heartbreaking news of Zak’s (Steve Halliwell) passing. As Cain, played by Jeff Hordley, delivers the tragic news to the family, a profound sense of grief envelops not only the Dingles but the entire village as well.

The solemn moments see the Dingles clinging together for solace, with Cain, Sam (James Hooton), and Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) sharing poignant memories of their father. His absence sends shockwaves through them all.

As the community gathers to offer their respects, Sam and Cain leave for Scotland in a touching procession to bring Zak back. Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) ensures that the Woolpack becomes a refuge for those in mourning and, later, at Wishing Well Cottage, tributes flow as the Dingles toast to the memory of Zak.

But the day of the funeral brings an unexpected twist when a long-gone relative makes a dramatic appearance, leaving everyone stunned.

Teasing fans, Jeff hinted, “It’s someone you might recognize. They’re not going to make things easy for the Dingles. Could it be a character returning from the dead?”

Jeff Hordley, who has portrayed Cain since March 2000, reflected on his experience during the emotional filming of Zak’s farewell, saying, “There are some truly poignant moments in it.

“While we were shooting, we all stayed focused and poured our hearts into the script.”

“But off camera as well and Steve would have enjoyed this, because Steve always liked to have a giggle behind the camera whilst we weren’t rolling, we made sure we had some laughs as well.”

“When we come together as a group, we ensure that filming is enjoyable. What I mean to say is that the mood wasn’t solely somber; we made it a point to share some laughs, and Steve would have wanted it that way.”

“Being a Dingle is a tremendous source of pride for me. It’s something I still can’t believe at times. I feel like I’m part of this incredible, iconic family that is woven into the fabric of Emmerdale. So, I feel truly honored and grateful to be a Dingle.”
