A former Coronation Street villain is set to make a comeback on screens, but this time in a new role on the soap Doctors.

Doctors viewers are in for a surprise as a former Coronation Street star joins the BBC medical drama next week.

Graeme Hawley, best known for his chilling portrayal of John Stape on the cobbles between 2007 and 2011, will appear in an upcoming episode titled Sucker Punch, playing a character named Jason Chapman.

The BBC teased the episode with a brief synopsis: “Graham is out to cause trouble, Rosie puts her plan into action, and Luca is pushed to the limit. Michelle treats FME patient Erika and suspects she may be hiding something.”

Longtime Corrie fans will remember Graeme’s unforgettable role as John Stape, one of the soap’s most notorious villains. Initially introduced as a mild-mannered teacher and love interest for Fiz Brown, John’s storyline took a sinister twist when he began an affair with his student, Rosie Webster.

John’s life spiraled out of control after his affair was exposed, setting the stage for his ultimate downfall. In a desperate attempt to regain control, he kidnapped Rosie, holding her hostage for five weeks until he was finally arrested, according to the Liverpool Echo.

But the drama didn’t stop there. After his release from prison, John, unable to find teaching work, stole the identity of his former colleague, Colin Fishwick.

Things took a darker turn when Colin unexpectedly returned to the UK and died suddenly in front of John and Charlotte Hoyle. In a panic, John concealed Colin’s body and later killed Charlotte when she tried to blackmail him. His string of crimes reached new heights when he accidentally killed Colin’s mother, Joy Fishwick, during a botched confession.

After John’s crimes were uncovered, he made a final attempt to escape and abduct Rosie again, but his plans ended in tragedy following a fatal car crash. Before passing away from a heart attack, John confessed everything. He was married to Fiz, and together they had a daughter, Hope Stape.

Since leaving Coronation Street in 2011, actor Graeme Hawley has appeared in several TV series. His credits include Peaky Blinders as Niall Devlin in 2017, Finding Alice as Graham in 2021, and Red Rose as Dave Banister in 2022.

This isn’t Graeme’s first appearance on Doctors, having previously featured three times between 2011 and 2015, portraying Tony McQuinn, Barry Partridge, and Jim Piper.
