Emmerdale’s Ruby Fox-Miligan (played by Beth Cordingly) has confirmed her plans to split from long-term husband Caleb (William Ash) after his shocking betrayal was finally revealed.
Caleb, a scheming businessman, has been harbouring a dreadful secret from his wife. Last month, when Ruby’s estranged mother Helen Fox (Sharon Maughan) attempted to reach out to her, Caleb stepped in and visited Helen, where she confessed that she was terminally ill and wanted to reconcile with Ruby.
Caleb insisted that if Helen genuinely wanted to see Ruby, she would need to pay him £100,000 upfront. When the hospital called Ruby in for a visit with her mother, she was met with the heartbreaking news from a nurse that Helen had passed away just 20 minutes earlier.
Ruby was crushed, realizing she would never have the opportunity to reconnect with her estranged mother before her death.
In Wednesday’s episode (October 16), Ruby had a brief conversation about death with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), who is grieving the loss of the beloved character Zak (Steve Halliwell), as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Chas encouraged Ruby to visit the hospital and ask if her mother had mentioned her before passing away. When Ruby arrived at the hospital, she spoke with the nurse who had been present during Helen’s final moments, and the nurse confirmed that they had indeed talked about Ruby.
Casually, the nurse also mentioned that Caleb had visited Helen in the ward just hours before her death. This revelation shattered Ruby’s heart, and when she confronted Caleb at home about Helen’s passing, he appeared to be evasive.
Drama unfolded as Ruby discovered Caleb’s betrayal, having visited Helen and preventing her from seeing her dying mum for that final farewell.
In a heated confrontation, Ruby unleashed her anger on Caleb, demanding he leave their home: “Get out! You have lied to me for the last time, Caleb. I am done with you for good this time,” marking a definitive turning point in their tumultuous marriage.
With a resolute “Just go,” she watched as Caleb walked out, leaving her emotionally shattered. Will Ruby ever find it in her heart to forgive Caleb for depriving her of a final goodbye with her mother, or is this truly the end for the troubled couple?
