Joel Deering (Calum Lill) has been killed in Coronation Street, and a new suspect has emerged.
Many people had motives to want the sinister solicitor dead, but a flashback in tonight’s episode pinpointed one individual as the primary suspect.
Since arriving in Coronation Street, Joel has made Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) life a nightmare. After grooming her, he assaulted her and attempted to frame Roy Cropper (David Neilson) for her murder.
When Lauren was discovered to be alive and pregnant with Joel’s child, he took chilling steps to drug her and induce an early labor.
When Lauren approached the police, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) did her utmost to ensure Joel faced justice. However, someone got to him first, delivering two fatal blows to his head.
In tonight’s episode, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) continued his investigation into Joel’s murder by questioning Ed and Ronnie Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges and Vinta Morgan) about their activities on the night of the crime.
While both Ed and Ronnie claimed they had been at home, they later admitted the truth to Dee-Dee Bailey and Debbie Webster (Channique Sterling-Brown and Sue Devaney) about their actual whereabouts.
They confessed that they had gone to Joel’s flat looking for him, but upon arrival, they found he was already gone, so they chose to return home instead.
Dee-Dee looked unsettled by their revelation and left Ronnie’s birthday dinner early. However, it would later become clear that her concern was not about their activities on the night of Joel’s murder.
As Dee-Dee became overwhelmed with emotion, viewers were shown another flashback revealing that she had confronted Joel on the night he was killed—with a crowbar in hand!
The police believe that a crowbar was the murder weapon used to bludgeon Joel, which places Dee-Dee squarely under suspicion.
Additionally, a later flashback depicted her scrubbing blood off the crowbar in her kitchen sink.
Did she actually use the crowbar on Joel, or could there be another explanation for her actions?
