On Friday night, Emmerdale viewers were touched by a heartfelt tribute to Zak Dingle, featuring several past characters returning to the screen.

In a poignant moment that fans described as “powerful” and “perfect,” Zak appeared onscreen just days after his tragic death. A nostalgic clip showcased Zak, portrayed by the late actor Steve Halliwell, sharing his thoughts on what love truly means with his family.

Just moments before this touching scene, viewers were treated to a montage of some of Zak’s most memorable moments with his family over the past 30 years. The clips featured younger versions of Belle, Cain, and Sam Dingle, along with several other familiar faces from the show’s history.

Numerous Dingles made a return of sorts, appearing in past clips for the first time in years, some even decades. Alongside former Dingles, the special episode also showcased clips of past village residents who are no longer part of the show.

Zak’s death was confirmed on Monday, with his funeral held on Thursday. Actor Steve Halliwell passed away in December 2023. The characters gathered for a heartfelt farewell to Zak, which also served as a poignant moment for the cast to bid farewell to Steve.

Following Tina Dingle’s surprising return after 28 years, Friday’s episode focused on her siblings Cain, Sam, and Belle as they mourned their father. Presented in a unique three-hander format, the episode primarily centered on the trio discussing their grief and how they plan to move forward.

Cain read aloud a heartfelt message he had written, referencing past characters, including his late brother Butch Dingle. Belle and Sam listened intently as he honored their father by sharing memories of their conversations together.

During this moment, viewers were treated to a series of nostalgic flashbacks featuring several past characters, including Debbie Dingle, Butch, Belle’s late mother Lisa Dingle, and even Solomon Dingle. The montage also included appearances from soap legend Seth Armstrong and the late vicar Harriet Finch.

This poignant montage prompted fans to reflect on Zak’s journey on the show and remember some familiar faces who are no longer with us. The emotional tribute evoked a sense of nostalgia, culminating in a touching moment with Zak speaking in the final clip.

Viewers praised the episode and the cast for their emotional portrayals, expressing how moved they were by the character returns, nods to the past, and the heartfelt tribute to Zak. One fan tweeted: “@emmerdale has absolutely nailed this week’s episodes with the Dingles. It has been so moving and perfect, from the writing to the music. The acting was faultless too.”

Another fan echoed this sentiment, saying: “WOW!!!! Tonight’s #Emmerdale is incredibly powerful! In all my eight years of watching this show, tonight’s episode is by far the best. Beautifully acted by Eden Taylor-Draper, James Hooten, and Jeff Hordley, with a tender script. Steve Halliwell would have been proud!”
