Coronation Street’s cherished character, Gemma Winter, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, has bid farewell to the iconic cobbles following a whirlwind few months.

Since joining the show in 2014, Gemma quickly won over fans with her vibrant backstory and the challenges of parenting her four energetic quadruplets.

Gemma’s life on the street has been anything but peaceful, especially after the heartbreaking loss of her twin brother Paul (Peter Ash), who was diagnosed with MND last year and tragically passed away in September. This loss has profoundly affected Gemma, who is struggling with her grief more than she shows.

In Monday’s episode (October 21), Gemma returned to work at The Rovers Return, despite her husband Chesney’s (Sam Aston) worries that it might be too soon. However, the pressure became overwhelming for Gemma, leading her to take a break in the back of the pub.

She found solace in her brother Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who invited her to his friend’s cottage in the Lake District for some time away. In a decision that may disappoint fans, Gemma chose to step back from the cobbles for a while.

After discussing the decision with Chesney, who supported her choice, Gemma is preparing to leave Weatherfield after a tough few months, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

Coronation Street fans were heartbroken to hear about Gemma’s temporary exit from the cobbles. One fan lamented on a Corrie Facebook page, “She is playing her character so well and going through hell.”

Another supporter remarked, “I’m not surprised she is taking time out; she just needs to step back and find herself again.” However, a third fan expressed surprise at how sudden the break seemed, stating, “It seems a bit sudden.”

Dolly-Rose Campbell, who has won the hearts of viewers as Gemma, had a stint as a bartender before her acting career soared, a job that proved useful for her role in the Rovers Return.

Reflecting on her past, Dolly-Rose Campbell once shared, “I’ve worked behind a bar in real life; it was before Coronation Street when I worked in radio. I did hospitality and bar work.”

The actress recounted a fortunate moment that occurred shortly after auditioning for the role of Gemma Winter, stating in an interview, “I had an audition before the tour, but I wasn’t expecting anything. While we were walking around, my friend said, ‘Imagine if you got a job on it,’ and I was telling her that would never happen. Just a couple of days later, I received a call saying I got the part.”
