Junior Knight (Micah Balfour) faces mounting tension from his neighbors as his job threatens an iconic location in Walford in next week’s EastEnders.

Many locals are left anxious about their jobs when news breaks that Bridge Street Market and Square Gardens could be redeveloped.

Longtime fruit and vegetable seller Martin Fowler (James Bye) is devastated to hear this from market inspector Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) in upcoming scenes.

They quickly call a crisis meeting at The Vic, joined by Honey’s husband Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) and other market traders, to discuss the potential closure.

Council representative Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) is called to The Vic to unveil the Walford council’s plans for the site, leaving the traders devastated.

Tensions rise further when it’s revealed that Junior has been awarded the potential contract for the redevelopment.

Will he reconsider taking on the project and face the anger of the locals?

Ian is also expected to face backlash from Martin and the rest of his family regarding the council’s plans, especially since he has a deep-rooted history with the market. Fans will remember that his father, Pete Beale (Peter Dean), originally ran the fruit and veg stall before it was taken over by his cousin, Martin Fowler (Todd Carty).

Of course, this is far from the first time the market’s future has been under threat.

In 2014, the community united to campaign for the market’s survival after plans for its closure were announced.

Ultimately, it merged with the nearby Spring Lane Market, introducing new characters to the show, such as Pam Coker (Lin Blakely) and Donna Yates (Lisa Hammond).
