Queen guitarist Brian May was unable to recognize his own wife, Anita Dobson, after her transformation for the new zombie series Generation Z. Anita shared, “I sent my husband [Queen guitarist, Sir Brian May] a photo of me from the set when I looked quite bloodied, and he couldn’t speak; he just asked, ‘Is this my wife?’” Playing Janine in the series, she continued, “I also had a baptism of blood on my first day when a blood bag was overfilled, and it went everywhere.

“It got in my eyes, up my nose, in my ears—everyone was soaked, and the walls were drenched while everyone laughed hysterically.” Brian and Anita have been married for 23 years and first met at a film preview shortly after Anita joined the cast of EastEnders as Angie Watts. Recently, Brian disclosed that he had suffered a stroke, sharing the news with fans on social media in September of this year, but he reassured them that he was still able to play guitar.

The musician had previously experienced a heart attack in 2020. Reflecting on his latest health scare, he stated, “I’m here to bring you, first of all, some good news, I think. The good news is that I can still play guitar after everything that’s happened in the last few days. I mention this because it was in doubt; that little health hiccup I referred to occurred about a week ago—it was described as a minor stroke. Out of the blue, I suddenly lost control over this arm, which was a bit scary, I have to admit.”

Meanwhile, Anita is set to star in Ben Wheatley’s latest creation, Generation Z. This marks her first foray into a zombie role, and she expressed, “I’ve never done anything like this before. I thought, at my age, I should give everything a go.” In the series, the Generation Z characters initially remain oblivious to the unfolding chaos until Anita’s character, Janine, becomes infected and attacks her granddaughter, Kelly, portrayed by Buket Komur.

“When it comes to Kelly, Janine simply wants to infect her so they can be together—she doesn’t intend to kill her,” Anita explains. “After Janine becomes infected, she experiences a mix of horror and curiosity about what is happening to her. But then she begins to rediscover the feelings she had when she was younger. There’s a longing to step out and embrace life, to assert herself, and she realizes she has the power to do so. Janine is utterly fearless and is determined not to lose that.”
