DS Lisa Swain, portrayed by Vicky Myers, has been part of the ITV soap since 2021 but became a more prominent character earlier this year, introducing viewers to her rebellious daughter, Betsy, played by Sydney Martin.
Not much is known about DS Swain’s background aside from having a daughter, Betsy, and the fact that her partner, Becky—Betsy’s other mother—tragically passed away.
Recently, both DS Swain and Betsy have been in the spotlight on the ITV soap due to the murder mystery surrounding Joel Deering (Calum Lill).
DS Swain is actively investigating the case while her daughter Betsy was targeted by the corrupt solicitor before he went missing and was ultimately killed, reports the Liverpool Echo.
In a recent episode, Betsy spoke with Mason Radcliffe, played by Luca Toolan, who is also a suspect in the Joel murder mystery, at Roy’s Rolls. Mason, who has been living on the streets, was seen enjoying some toast, prompting Betsy to remark, “Trying to make your hair go curly? That’s what my aunt says when you eat the crusts!”
Fans of the soap were thrilled by the mention of another member of the Swain family, speculating that this could hint at a new arrival in the cobbles. On Twitter, now known as X, one user commented, “‘My aunt’ Okay, Swain family fans, Betsy has mentioned an aunt… Lisa’s sister? Becky’s sister? Who could it be! #corrie” (sic).
Another viewer wrote, “Betsy has an aunt! New Swain revealed. #Corrie!” This prompted a response from another account: “THIS IS NEW INFORMATION.” Meanwhile, another soap fan speculated, “I’m thinking it could be Becky’s sister.” (sic)
Spoilers for next week reveal that DS Swain’s mysterious injury will be explained and clarified after raising concerns among viewers. Recently, DS Swain worried fans as she appeared to struggle with an injury and almost vomited during the investigation into the Joel murder case.
In the upcoming scenes, Betsy walks into the bathroom and discovers Lisa’s bruises, but she isn’t convinced by her mother’s explanation that they were caused at a body combat class.
Things take a troubling turn when Betsy finds a bottle of painkillers dated September 28. She shares this with Mason and is shocked to learn that Joel was killed on that same date.
Later, Betsy becomes even more unsettled when Daisy Midgeley, played by Charlotte Jordan, reveals that Joel was involved in a fight on the night of his death. As the week progresses, Lisa deceives Betsy by claiming her bruises are the result of an office injury.
