EastEnders fans have picked up on a clue that may reveal who killed Harry Mitchell’s girlfriend, Shireen – and it spells trouble for Walford.
This week, the BBC soap delivered a shocking twist when Jack Branning revealed that Harry is suspected of murdering his missing girlfriend, which is the real reason the Mitchell family relocated to Walford.
Detective Jack Branning was attempting to protect his daughter Penny from Harry, as well as prevent Harry from using the assault footage to blackmail him.
However, his plan backfired when Penny believed Harry’s version of events, where he claimed they had a passionate relationship but denied any wrongdoing.
Fans, though, have a different theory. They believe they’ve uncovered the real truth behind Shireen’s death—and it’s bad news for Walford. Instead of Harry being the killer, viewers suspect that his soon-to-arrive mother, Nicola, murdered Shireen, with his father, Teddy, helping to cover it up.
One fan speculated: “I’ve figured out who killed Shireen. It was Nicola, and Teddy agreed to cover it up.
“There were two lines of dialogue in this episode that gave it away.
“First, during the scene where Harry and Penny were talking in the garage, Harry mentioned that the police suspected him of killing Shireen, but no one believed him ‘except his dad.’
“That suggests even people like Barney had doubts. But why would Teddy be so sure that Harry didn’t do it? Because he knows who really did—and that’s Nicola.”
“Secondly, in the scene where Barney and Teddy were talking about the Avani situation, Teddy said something like ‘why did you let Ravi off the hook and not tell the police? Did you think Avani would come running into your arms? Because I’m telling you, it doesn’t always work out like that.’
The fan continued: “I believe this hints that Teddy has been in a situation like Barney’s before, where he thought that hiding the truth from the police would help him win over the woman he loves.
“I suspect it will come out that Teddy and Nicola split up a long time ago, but he’s always carried a torch for her and wants to reconcile—similar to the dynamic between Alfie and Kat.
“When Teddy discovered that Nicola killed Shireen (for reasons that haven’t been revealed yet), he decided to cover it up, hoping that by doing so, Nicola would realize she felt the same way and they could get back together.”
The fan concluded: “Unfortunately, things didn’t go as Teddy hoped, and Nicola ended up leaving the family again.
“Teddy is still keeping the secret, not just because he loves Nicola, but because he knows Harry will be livid if he ever finds out that Teddy knew the truth about Shireen’s death and kept quiet.”
Nicola Mitchell is set to make her arrival in Walford soon, with actress Laura Doddington stepping into the role.
