Emmerdale’s Daisy Campbell is departing the show after 13 years, with producers deciding to end her character’s storyline, a move that has left her feeling “grieving.”

Daisy, who joined the popular soap as Amelia Spencer at just eight years old, is now 21 and reveals that she had been struggling with the news since she was called in for a confidential meeting. There, she learned her last scenes would air just before Christmas.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Daisy shared, “It wasn’t my choice to leave Emmerdale, and it was a shock at first. Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I’ve spent my entire childhood growing up in the soap, and it felt daunting.”

Currently, Amelia is involved with the villainous Tom King and is unaware of his abusive behavior towards Belle Dingle. Additionally, she is a mother to two-year-old Esther, following her unexpected pregnancy with Samson Dingle in 2022. However, after Amelia’s on-screen parents departed the Dales, producers informed Daisy that they had run out of storylines for her character.

“Once they explained, I totally got it,” Daisy said. “Amelia isn’t part of the Dingles; her dad has left, Samson is gone now, and she doesn’t have any family. There is nowhere to take Amelia, and I understand that. I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of the soap for 13 years and to have received so many opportunities at such a young age.”

Daisy received the news in May but felt the need to wait before announcing her departure, explaining that she needed time to “grieve.” For two months, only her three closest friends—co-stars Rosie Bentham, Katie Hill, and Jack Downham—were aware of her situation.

“They were upset for me but so supportive. I didn’t tell the rest of the cast initially because I wanted time to process everything. I needed to grieve for the part of Amelia,” Daisy shared.

It wasn’t until July that she began informing others. “I had worried so much about how to tell people I was leaving, and now I know I shouldn’t have! They were all brilliant,” she added. Now, five months later, she expresses relief that Emmerdale made the decision for her rather than her having to contemplate leaving herself.

“Of course, it was a shock at first, but now that I’ve had time to digest it all, I am really excited,” Daisy remarked. “Emmerdale has actually done me a favor because I would never have left if they hadn’t decided there was no longer anywhere to take Amelia. I’m glad it was their choice and not mine. I see it as a big positive now, as it presents a great opportunity for me to push myself, start a new chapter away from Emmerdale, and hopefully take on new roles. I am really excited about what lies ahead.”

The details of her exit remain a closely guarded secret, but the Mirror can confirm that she won’t be killed off. “I’m pleased the door is being left open. But I can’t say too much about how she leaves,” she said.

What she can reveal is that her departure will be directly tied to her character’s current relationship with Tom. After Belle finally found the courage to leave her marriage in September, following months of coercive control and abuse, Tom quickly began dating an unaware Amelia. Viewers have continued to witness Tom’s psychological abuse of Belle behind Amelia’s back.

On Bonfire Night, Amelia will begin to notice a different side to Tom, hints Daisy.

“He gets annoyed with Amelia, and it’s a turning point for her,” the actress explained. “Could Amelia become the next victim of Tom’s nastiness like Belle? Everyone will have to wait to see.”

Daisy praised the soap for addressing such significant issues, stating, “It’s great that the soap is raising awareness about the need for women to be believed. It’s been rewarding for me to engage with such an important storyline.”

Daisy was born in Leeds in 2003 and began her acting journey at Rebel Acting School as a child. It wasn’t long before she secured her role in the iconic Yorkshire soap. Currently, she still resides with her parents, Rory and Alison, along with a younger brother who is also an actor and a sister who is a national dance champion. They have all been incredibly supportive following her announcement about leaving the show.

“My mum actually had a gut instinct that this might happen,” Daisy reveals. “But they’ve been brilliant, encouraging me to embrace whatever comes next in my career. I feel fortunate to live at home, so I don’t have to worry about rent. I’m a free bird!”

Reflecting on her 13 years in the soap, Daisy expresses how much she has cherished every moment, emphasizing that she has no regrets about starting at a young age.

“I will be forever grateful for my time in Emmerdale,” she shares. “It’s been incredible to learn from seasoned professionals, and I’ll carry their advice with me. I’ve made so many friends on set, and I’m really going to miss everyone. But I feel lucky to have grown up in the soap. I’ve never felt like I missed out on anything.”

The advice she received from actress Kelli Hollis, who played Amelia’s mother, Ali, has stuck with her throughout her journey.

“She told me to always stay grounded and not let success go to my head,” Daisy confides. “When I was little, I was always so energetic, running around the set. She advised me to never change. I appreciated that guidance, as I wouldn’t want being in Emmerdale to affect my character.”

Daisy highlights Amelia’s kidnapping in 2018 and her unexpected teenage pregnancy two years ago as two of her favorite storylines, expressing pride in being trusted with such intense plots over the years. “Working on both stories has been amazing,” she notes. “Amelia getting kidnapped was my first big storyline, and it made me realize how much I wanted to pursue acting for the rest of my career. The teenage pregnancy storyline has also been fulfilling, especially working with a baby and now with Florence Mae Dyson, who plays Esther.”

She laughs, adding that she’s not considering having a baby of her own just yet. Daisy, who confirms she is in a relationship but wishes to keep it private, emphasizes, “It’s great to work with a child and then go home and be a 21-year-old again!”

Daisy filmed her last scenes, which will air in December, earlier this month. “I cried during my final block of filming,” she admits. “But we had a leaving party last week, and it was a lot of fun. I know I’ll stay in touch with all the friends I’ve made now that I’ve left.”

So, what’s next for Daisy? “Oh my gosh, there’s so much I want to do,” she replies enthusiastically. “Since finishing filming, I’ve gained even more drive and determination. I’m open to theatre, TV dramas, films—anything! I’m excited to see where this next chapter takes me.”
