Emmerdale is set to deliver a major twist, as a key character who has been part of the show for years is about to be killed off, shocking fans.

Many viewers remember Rebecca White’s memorable entrance in 2016, portrayed by Emily Head, complete with her signature hat, helicopter arrival, and frequent mishaps. As part of the notorious White family—now mostly wiped out except for serial killer Lachlan—Rebecca was central to several explosive storylines. These included her controversial pregnancy with Robert Sugden’s baby, being held captive by her unbalanced nephew, and coping with a traumatic brain injury following a crash that took Chrissie and Lawrence’s lives.

Rebecca exited the show in 2018, leaving for a fresh start with Ross Barton and young Seb.

Recently, it was confirmed that Michael Parr would reprise his role as Ross Barton after nearly six years away. Speaking with Metro, Parr revealed that Ross returns carrying plenty of emotional baggage, which fuels his dive into risky underground boxing matches, leading him to face off with Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle).

“He’s been through a lot,” Parr explained. “With a difficult upbringing, being on the run, complicated relationships with his family, and his girlfriend’s death, he’s been scarred by his past.”

Ross is still recognizable, though he has grown through his struggles, Parr shared, hinting at more layers yet to come. With five years’ worth of untold storylines, the writers have built intrigue around what Ross has been up to, whether he’s stayed out of trouble, and whether he’s made any new enemies.

Now that Ross is back in the heart of Emmerdale’s chaos, Parr expressed how thrilled and fortunate he feels to return to the role he loves. Embracing the busyness of the show, he highlighted the stability of working in the North and the security of a steady role.

Fans were thrilled to hear of his return, with Metro readers responding enthusiastically. Grateful for the outpouring of support, Parr admitted he felt a lot of pressure to meet viewers’ expectations.

“It’s wonderful to know so many people appreciated my work,” he said, smiling. “I’m trying to cut back on social media because it’s addictive, but seeing the response to Ross’s return was overwhelming and deeply appreciated.”

Though he’s aiming to be mindful of his social media use, Parr acknowledged that the positive feedback motivates him to deliver even better performances.

With Ross set for a whirlwind of drama in the coming months, Parr will have ample opportunity to remind audiences why his character’s return is so exciting.
