Cheryl Fergison, best known for playing Heather Trott in EastEnders, has landed a new role after facing financial struggles following her departure from the soap.
Cheryl was written out of EastEnders in 2012 when her character, Heather, was killed off during a dramatic whodunit storyline. After leaving the show, the actress found it difficult to secure acting roles and even resorted to selling memorabilia on Instagram to make ends meet.
However, Cheryl has now shared exciting news that she will be performing as the Fairy Godmother in a Cinderella pantomime production in Peterborough this Christmas. She posted about the role on Instagram, sharing a poster for the pantomime along with behind-the-scenes photos.
In a recent interview Cheryl explained how she has been selling items online to “stay afloat.” She said, “There’s unofficial merchandise being sold, and I wanted to offer true fans a chance to get something from my era on EastEnders.”
She emphasized that, like many, she needed to find ways to earn a living outside of acting. Cheryl added, “We don’t always have work as actors, and sometimes we have to do whatever we can to pay bills and put food on the table.”
Cheryl had previously opened up about her emotional reaction to being written out of EastEnders, admitting that she cried when she was told that Heather would be killed off. “It was a bittersweet day,” she recalled. “When they told me Heather was for the chop, the boss had to get me a tissue.”
Her character, Heather, was tragically murdered by Ben Mitchell after a robbery attempt. Ben served four years in prison for the crime.
Cheryl has also teased a possible return to the soap world, suggesting that Heather could return as her long-lost twin sisters. In an interview with Good Morning Britain, Cheryl expressed interest in roles with other soaps like Emmerdale or Coronation Street. She joked about joining the Dingles in Emmerdale or creating a brand new character for Corrie, adding, “It’s time to see a completely different character in one of the other continuing dramas.”
