In a recent Coronation Street episode, the drama around Joel Deering’s murder case took a new turn when DS Lisa Swain was unexpectedly arrested as a suspect. However, fans quickly pointed out a notable flaw in the storyline.
During the Monday episode (November 11), Dee-Dee Bailey (played by Channique Sterling-Brown) was deeply troubled, believing she might be responsible for the death of her ex-fiancé Joel (Calum Lill).
She confessed to DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) that she had struck Joel with a crowbar in self-defense and anonymously called Kit that same night.
Recalling her last encounter with Joel, she mentioned that he had a suitcase with him and that the weapon she used could be found in her father Ed’s (Trevor Michael Georges) backyard. Dee-Dee insisted that Joel was still alive when she left and had even texted her afterward, but Kit remained doubtful.
Suddenly, PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) arrived at the station with news that the blood-stained murder weapon had been found—a rock, not Dee-Dee’s crowbar—essentially clearing her of suspicion. Soon after, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) was arrested in connection to Joel’s murder, shocking her new friend Carla Connor (Alison King).
Lisa’s CS spray was discovered alongside the murder weapon, making her a primary suspect, while Dee-Dee was released. Despite her release, Dee-Dee grew wary of Kit’s defensiveness about his whereabouts on the night of Joel’s murder.
Although Kit conducted Lisa’s interview, she claimed to have an alibi, though her story conflicted with the timeline of Joel’s last moments, casting doubt on her statement.
Viewers were quick to raise questions about the legitimacy of Kit’s handling of Lisa’s interrogation, given her senior rank.
One viewer voiced their skepticism on X, writing, “Kit can’t be the one interviewing Swain; protocol requires an officer of a higher rank #Corrie,” while another added, “Why is DC Kit questioning DS Swain? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? #Corrie.”
Another fan noticed the procedural slip, commenting, “Corrie doesn’t follow ‘Line of Duty’ rules. DS Swain is supposed to be questioned by someone ranked above DC Kit ‘Zodiac smug’ Green.”
A fourth fan pointed out an additional concern, saying, “No way should Kit be interviewing DS Swain while she’s intoxicated #Corrie.” Wrapping up the critiques, another viewer remarked, “Kit questioning his superior didn’t make him any less of an arrogant t*** #Corrie.”
