Emmerdale star Natalie Robb recently shared her thoughts on how she’d react if her character, Moira Dingle, were to be written out of the ITV soap.

The 49-year-old actress, who has played Moira since 2009, is currently facing one of her most intense storylines yet. In September, Moira received a devastating diagnosis of a brain tumour and will soon undergo surgery to remove it in scenes set to air next week.

Natalie was “really excited” about taking on such a significant storyline, although some around her worried about what it might mean for her future on Emmerdale. Speaking exclusively to other outlets, Natalie revealed, “Everyone was asking, ‘Are you worried they might kill Moira off?'” However, she was quickly reassured that her character would survive this storyline.

Despite this, Natalie admitted she would be at peace with the decision if it were to happen, saying, “When that decision is made, it’s beyond your control, so there’s nothing you can do about it.”

The actress has been surprised by the overwhelming response to the storyline, explaining, “The amount of feedback from people on social media, and how many are actually experiencing this in real life, is extraordinary—I had no idea.” She expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “It’s been wonderful to raise awareness and give people something they can connect with. I felt honored to take on that responsibility.”

Natalie, who also starred in The Bill, emphasized the importance of portraying the storyline accurately due to its real-life impact on viewers. She said, “I wanted to make sure we got everything right, so I did research and consulted a neurologist, because this is something people genuinely go through.”

She continued, “While it’s okay to use dramatic license sometimes, when it comes to real health issues, accuracy is crucial. If not handled well, it can be upsetting for people who are actually living with it.”

Natalie also shared how Moira feels as the surgery date approaches, saying Moira is “terrified” of losing her husband Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and never seeing her children again.

“Moira is really scared,” Natalie explained. “Her biggest fear is that she might lose Cain and be separated from her kids. It’s also left her feeling vulnerable; she’s always been a strong character, and now she’s grappling with the possibility of losing parts of herself.”

Hinting at a challenging recovery, Natalie added, “There’s also the fear of whether she’ll be the same person after the operation.”
