Emmerdale actress Georgia Jay has teased an “exciting” new romance for her character, Stephanie Miligan, which will cause tension with her estranged father, Caleb (William Ash), who disapproves of her choice in local men.

Stephanie’s unexpected return to the village comes after she was named in the will of Helen Fox (Sharon Maughan), following her recent death. However, the inheritance won’t be the only thing on her mind. Speaking to Leicestershire Live, Georgia revealed, “She’s coming back after about a decade, and there’s conflict between her mum Ruby (Beth Cordingly) and Caleb. I can’t give too much away, but it’s an exciting storyline, and we’ll learn why she’s been absent for so long.”

Georgia continued, “When she reunites with her parents, she’s not planning to stay; it’s more about getting what she wants and leaving. She’s not interested in a family reunion, just the money, then she’s off.”

Beyond the Miligan family’s inheritance drama, Georgia confirmed that Steph will have a romance with local bad boy Ross Barton (Michael Parr). While their future together is uncertain, their chemistry will immediately ruffle Caleb’s feathers, as he strongly disapproves of their fling.

“There’s a lot of fun in their relationship,” Georgia explained. “Steph’s anger and hurt towards her parents fuel her desire to get back at them, and with Ross, there’s a playful chemistry. Her confidence, quick wit, and sense of humour surprise him because he’s never had a woman like her—one who’s in charge. It’s a fun dynamic between them. I’m not sure where it’s going, but they definitely have strong chemistry.”

Although Steph’s relationship with Ross isn’t intended to provoke her parents, Caleb sees it as a personal “dagger.”

Georgia added, “Caleb’s not happy when he sees us leaving the B&B together. He’s definitely not on board, and he’ll try to interfere.”

Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby, commented, “Ruby’s pretty cool about it. She’s in her 30s, so she’s letting Steph do her thing. She’s a grown woman, and Ruby’s not going to stop her, even if it’s not the most helpful approach.”

William Ash, who plays Caleb, responded, “It’s about Caleb’s reputation. He doesn’t think Ross is good enough for Steph.” Beth then added, “You’ll love watching Caleb get wound up by it!”
