Emmerdale has had some of the most dramatic and exciting episodes in its five-year history, including last year’s storm episode to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary.

Executive producer Jane Hudson, who oversees Emmerdale, has revealed that she will step down after five years.

After watching all of the programs during the wildly popular Super Soap Week of this year, Jane will depart on September 22.

The soap opera has received an unparalleled number of honors in the last five years, including recent BAFTA and NTA awards.

It has also received a great deal of praise from critics for its emotionally wrenching portrayals of events like Marlon Dingle’s stroke (played by Mark Charnock) and Faith Dingle’s breast cancer (played by Sally Dexter).

When all other drama production in the UK came to a halt, Jane kept the program on the air during the challenging Covid years.

She has been in charge of several extremely successful ratings weeks, such as the week that had high-wire action in a ravine and murder in a scorching corn maze, as well as the lethal storm week that celebrated Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary.

Additionally, Jane supported other significant ITV initiatives, such as the ground-breaking week in which all UK soap operas collaborated to convey climate change messaging in advance of COP26.

I’ve had a lovely experience at Emmerdale and feel extremely lucky to have worked with such a committed and brilliant crew for the previous five years, Jane remarked.

“I’m quite pleased of what we’ve accomplished, both on and off the screen, especially during the epidemic when we all worked together to keep the show on the air at all times.

Even though it will be difficult to say goodbye to my imaginary villager family, I am looking forward to spending weekends with my real family once more.

I’m most excited to watch Emmerdale again because I never know what will happen next, though.

ITV Drama Commissioner Huw Kennair-Jones continued, “Jane’s time at Emmerdale has been extraordinary.

She supervised Emmerdale being the first soap to begin production during the Covid 19 outbreak, ensuring it continued on broadcast, for which everyone at ITV will be eternally grateful. She also regularly delivered fantastic stories brilliantly told.

I want to express my gratitude to her for all that she has done for the program over the past five years and my best wishes for her future.

John Whiston, managing director for ongoing drama, continued, “We are all grateful for Jane’s unwavering commitment to and love of Emmerdale.

“The show has become stronger over the course of her tenure as showrunner, pushing the limits of ongoing drama to new heights with compelling narratives, jaw-dropping stunts, and profoundly moving human drama.

“She has also added interesting new characters and families, positioning the show for future success.

“Everyone who loves the show thanks her for what she has brought to Emmerdale over these last five years and for leaving the show in such good shape with inventive and compelling stories on the horizon well into 2024,” the statement reads.
