Billy Mayhew has been deeply affected by the recent death of his husband, Paul, and Coronation Street viewers saw a powerful moment in which Billy was visited by a vision of his late partner.

Since Paul’s passing earlier this year, Billy has been struggling with intense grief. In an attempt to numb the pain, he turned to alcohol and even made a romantic advance towards his ex, Todd Grimshaw, during a moment of despair. The situation worsened when Billy was tricked by one of Paul’s shady former acquaintances, Wayne, who stole Paul’s ashes and Summer’s laptop while Billy was away.

In Friday’s (November 8) episode, Billy, in a state of despair, was found drinking alone in a cold alley, risking hypothermia.

As he drifted in and out of consciousness, Billy started seeing Paul’s ghost. The apparition of Paul urged Billy to return home before it was too late. “I’m serious, Billy, if you don’t get up now, you’ll never get up,” Paul warned, while Billy confessed he felt life wasn’t worth living without him.

The vision of Paul, showing compassion, assured Billy that he already knew about the kiss with Todd and didn’t hold it against him. As Billy slipped further into unconsciousness, the ghost of Paul cried, pleading with Billy not to let his life end in such a tragic way.

Just as things seemed hopeless, Bernie, who had been searching for Billy, found him just in time. She, along with Dev, wrapped him in blankets, and paramedics arrived to save him. Although Billy’s life was spared, both Summer and Todd remained concerned about his emotional state.

The episode closed on a poignant note when Billy shared his vision of Paul with Bernie. She revealed that Paul had visited her in a dream and had urged her to find Billy. “I know it must have been a dream, but it felt so real,” Billy confessed.

Bernie, reassuring him, said, “No, mine was a dream. Yours was an apparition.” This brought a sense of peace to both characters, realizing that Paul had reached out to help them heal and move on, knowing he was in a better place.
