Coronation Street has seen its fair share of characters coming and going lately, and fans will be delighted to hear a classic character who grew up on the cobbles will be making a comeback soon, according to reports.
Bethany Platt (played by Lucy Fallon) has not been seen in Coronation Street in three years, but it has been rumored that she may return to the ITV serial.
The Platt family in Coronation Street remains a cobblestone fixture, and with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) at the center of a huge drama and killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) still at large, there are bound to be some significant plotlines affecting the family soon.
Lucy is said to be reprising her role as Sarah’s daughter, who went to start a new life in London.
“Lucy is one of soap opera’s most talented actresses who won numerous awards for her powerful portrayal of Bethany’s grooming storyline,” a source told The Sun.
“She was destined for greatness, and everyone was sad to see her go, but the door would always remain open for someone of her caliber and popularity.”
“Bosses reached out to her a few weeks ago about the possibility of coming back, and told her everything they’d planned for Bethany if she agreed.”
They went on to add “everyone is excited” for the 27-year-old to return, with her first scenes apparently set to air “after Christmas”.
Express.co.uk has reached out to ITV for comment on the reports.
Long-term fans will remember Bethany’s debut as her birth was a huge storyline for teen mother Sarah in 2000.
Lucy took over the post in 2015 and left five years later.
The Platts are now dealing with a number of issues.
Sarah and Adam Barlow’s (Sam Robertson) marriage has been on the rocks since he discovered he was not the father of her child.
Sarah then tragically lost her pregnant child.
Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), the family matriarch, is also unaware that her son Stephen is a serial killer.
The secret villain has murdered three people since returning from his life in Canada last year.
He will go to any length to defraud the Weatherfield residents of their money, but the cunning guy has so far stayed unnoticed, with no one suspecting him of being a murderer.
Sarah has been working closely with her uncle, and it appears that he is willing to destroy her as part of his plans.
Bethany’s return might be the beginning of Stephen finally being rumbled, especially because she’s returning around Christmas, a notoriously dramatic time in soap world.
