Coronation Street fans are certain that Carla Connor will be shacking up with DS Lisa Swain – now actress Alison King has addressed her character’s relationship
Coronation Street star Alison King has spoken out about the relationship rumours surrounding her character Carla Connor.
Fans will recall that Carla, who first appeared on the ITV soap in 2006, was left heartbroken at the start of the year. Her marriage to Peter Barlow came to an end when he left the cobbles.
Since then, things have gone from bad to worse for the beloved resident. In April, her good pal Roy Cropper found himself arrested for the murder of Lauren Bolton.
Roy was ultimately released from Prison last week. What’s more, amid all the drama that’s been going down on the cobbles, it appears Carla has stopped looking for love.
However, in recent weeks, the soap has teased Carla’s surprise romance with DS Lisa Swain. The copper, played by Vicky Myers, has been involved in many big storylines over the years.
Recently, Carla and Swain worked together in a bid to try and figure out what happened to missing Lauren. And in emotional scenes, Carla even found herself consoling Swain while they were together in Swain’s cop car.
The copper broke down in floods of tears over her dead wife and her estranged daughter. And it didn’t take long for Carla to comfort her.
Now, amid fan’s certainty that Carla and Swain will get together, actress Alison has addressed Carla’s relationships – and it’s not looking good.
Seemingly shutting down the likelihood of a new romance, Alison said: “I don’t think she’s ready for another relationship at all.
“And she’s definitely not got her eye on anybody. I don’t think she’s thought twice about it. I think it’s the last thing on her mind.”
Over the past few months, fans of the long-running ITV soap claimed they have picked up a certain vibe between favourite Carla and DS Lisa Swain. And it’s fair to say viewers are divided.
Gushing about the potential romance, one loyal fan wrote on X: “The tension & chemistry between Carla & Swain is 1 M B Swain is deffo gonna turn Carla’s head & I’m ready for it!”
A second proclaimed: “I am seriously obsessed with Carla and Swain please @itvcorrie get them together please.” A third penned: “Please, gods of the soaps, let Carla and D.C.Swain get together in.”
However others were not too keen. On X, one person said: “Not sure why the writers are giving DS Swain an expanded role… I’m hoping she remains a side character.
“And why would Carla suddenly care about this woman’s life???” They added. Someone else replied: “Naa she’s the street eye candy. While on an EastEnders Facebook fan page, someone else mused: “That will be the last straw for me if it happens , I will be switching off.”
