Coronation Street has unveiled two more unexpected suspects in the Joel Deering murder case.

The ITV soap recently kicked off its most intense whodunnit storyline yet, with the reveal that abusive character Joel had been killed. Initially, the investigation focused on three suspects with clear motives.

First, there was Mason Radcliffe, who was arrested after being found with a crowbar. The Bailey brothers, Ed and Ronnie, were also under scrutiny since Joel had deceived and wronged Dee-Dee Bailey.

Then came a shocking twist—Dee-Dee herself was shown as a suspect in a flashback where she was seen washing blood from her hands and handling a crowbar. However, in the latest episode, two new suspects emerged, and a popular fan theory was debunked.

During the episode, DS Lisa Swain was seen covering up several bruises, which her daughter Betsy noticed. Curious, Betsy grew suspicious, especially after discovering that Lisa had filled a pain medication prescription the day following Joel’s death. Betsy confronted her mum in public, certain she was hiding something significant.

Lisa reacted angrily, attempting to dismiss Betsy’s accusations, but it was evident Betsy believed her mother was keeping a dark secret. Meanwhile, Carla Connor had also been deceptive about her whereabouts the night Joel was killed.

Fans previously speculated that Carla and Joel might have spent the night together, having acted on their mutual attraction. However, it became clear they were not together that night. Lisa confided in Carla that she had been struck by a car and was concealing it from Betsy, given the trauma of losing her wife in the line of duty. A flashback further exposed Carla’s lies, showing her leaving the factory and encountering someone in a van.
