Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt is reportedly set to be at the centre of a major new storyline on the ITV soap, but fans have been left divided over the news
According to reports, Lucy Fallon’s character Bethany Platt on Coronation Street will feature a significant new plot, however it seems that some viewers are not thrilled. The beloved soap star debuted on the cobbles back in 2015.
Bethany, the daughter of Sarah (Tina O’Brien), has experienced a good deal of drama. 2017 saw her at the center of a tragic plot about child grooming and exploitation; Lucy won an Inside Soap Award for the part. Fans were devastated when she left the soap opera in January 2020, though.
At the time, she left the programme in a bid to pursue other opportunities. But four years since she said her goodbyes, Lucy headed back to the cobbles this year. And since her return, she has been involved in several big moments on the soap so far. But now, it’s been reported that Corrie bosses are lining up a huge new storyline for Lucy, as Bethany
According to reports, Bethany will soon become increasingly insecure about her appearance. As a result, she decides to jet off abroad for surgery – but things do not go to plan.
“This is a huge story for Bethany, and viewers will see her travel to a foreign clinic for cosmetic surgery,” a source told Metro. “As with a lot of these unregulated procedures, it doesn’t exactly go to plan.”
Reacting to news of Bethany’s storyline, Corrie viewers soon shared their thoughts. Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “This sounds abysmal.”
A second fan was less impressed, tweeting: “I thought we were turning a corner lately I’ve really been enjoying #corrie and then I read this it sounds awful plus the overkill of Bethany really irritates me.”
A third viewer expressed their confusion, posting: “I just don’t know why this character would do this… I’ll be turning off”. Meanwhile, another Corrie watcher commented: “I know Lucy will smash it but still sounds so ridiculous.”
On the flip side, some viewers are buzzing about what’s to come. One enthusiast wrote: “About time Bethany got a decent storyline. Can’t wait for this.”
