EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick shared his wish for a specific actor to join the cast of the BBC soap. The 31-year-old has portrayed Jay Brown since 2006, originally introduced as the grandchild of Evie Brown (Marji Campi) and Bert Atkinson (Dave Hill).

While Jay’s father, Jase Dyer (Stephen Lord), made his entrance to Walford a few months later, it was revealed that his mother, Karen Brown, had passed away from breast cancer.

Although Karen is deceased, Strictly Come Dancing star Jamie has previously hinted at the possibility of his on-screen mother returning from the dead.

At the Inside Soap Awards last year, the actor shared who he would like to portray his mother if she were to make a comeback. He said, “You know who I’d love to play my mum? I’d love someone like Joanna Lumley to take on the role.”

Jamie recalled a touching moment he shared with the BAFTA-winning actress at the National Television Awards several years prior.

He shared, “The reason I mention this is that at the NTAs years ago, she won the Special Recognition Award. We crossed paths in the corridor, and she gave me a big kiss on both cheeks, saying, ‘Oh, you’re great.'”

Jamie added, “From that moment on, I’ve adored Joanna Lumley.” Currently, he is balancing his role on EastEnders while also competing on Strictly Come Dancing.

Teaming up with Michelle Tsiakkas, Jamie has been impressing both the judges and the audience. Last week, he showcased his Salsa skills with a performance of “Danza Kuduro” by Don Omar and Lucenzo.

Head judge Shirley Ballas was visibly enthusiastic during her critique, giving the couple a standing ovation and declaring it Jamie’s “best dance” so far.
