An EastEnders fan-favorite has hinted at the “high stakes” in store for the soap’s upcoming 40th-anniversary celebrations.

The BBC series will mark its four-decade milestone in February 2025. Balvinder Sopal, who has portrayed Suki Panesar since 2020, revealed that cast members, like viewers, remain “in the dark” about many plot twists.

During her appearance on The One Show, she shared, “We can promise excitement and plenty of high stakes. It’ll be packed with drama and emotional moments. Just like the audience, we’re discovering things as we go. But, it’s EastEnders – we’re not going to let you down!”

In honor of the anniversary, a live episode will air, allowing fans to vote on the outcome of a love story, marking a first for the show. Cast and crew will respond in real-time based on the viewers’ choice.

EastEnders previously featured live broadcasts in 2009 and 2015. Discussing the special episode, executive producer Chris Clenshaw said, “This anniversary marks a huge milestone, and we’ve carefully planned a week filled with drama and surprises. Our audience has already seen a few familiar faces returning, and we have more nods to our history coming as we build toward the big week.”

Some iconic characters have already made appearances ahead of the February celebration, including David Wicks (Michael French), Chrissy Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman), Jane Beale (Laurie Brett), and Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer).

In September, it was announced that Louisa Lytton would reprise her role as Ruby Allen, last seen in 2021 amid drama involving her supposed pregnancy with estranged husband Martin Fowler (James Bye). Her return is likely to stir up more trouble, especially for Martin and her former friend Stacey (Lacey Turner).

Reflecting on her return, Louisa expressed, “I’m thrilled to revisit Ruby in the Square, to reveal what her life has been like during her time away from Walford. Playing Ruby is always exciting, and I can’t wait for viewers to see what she has in store.”
