EMMERDALE stalwart Zak Dingle could be killed off in upcoming scenes on the ITV soap as it seems the iconic family of the village are going to be at each other’s throats over some devastating news.

Zak (Steve Halliwell) has been a main character on Emmerdale for over two decades and has become one of the show’s most popular characters. He has tried to help his family through several difficulties over the years, as well as deal with the drama in his personal life on the ITV serial.

However, his time may be running out, as the leader of the famed Dingle clan may be on his way out of the Dales, a death that could divide his grieving family against one another.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed that Zak will be departing the show, producers Jane Hudson and Laura Shaw indicated that 2022 would be a terrible year for the Dingles in interviews with Express.co.uk and other outlets.

Laura stated, “As we approach 2022, the Dingles have a lot going on. Two of our most beloved Dingles are about to face major life changes that will have far-reaching consequences for the entire hamlet.

“Over the course of 2022 and into 2023, the consequences will be long-lasting.

“We’ll see drama, joy, pleasure, laughter, anguish, suffering, loss, and despair hit this family in the coming months,” she said, implying a death in the family.

“They will pulled into a lot of directions and be at the heart of our very biggest stories this year,” the producer added but will this story be focused on Zak’s demise?

With such strong and powerful family members, it can be difficult for them to express their emotions, and their feelings are expressed in other ways.

It is usually an argument that leads to some honest truths being aired, and this is what could erupt in the aftermath of Zak’s death.

This could lead to a life-changing incident that involves two clan members and has far-reaching repercussions.

Of course, the family has always had financial difficulties, and with the patriarch’s death, they may find themselves fighting over his legacy.

Although he did not leave a large sum of money, the additional funds would benefit various members of the family, especially Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), who is keen to reclaim the Woolpack.

Because money is the root of all evil, the Dingle family may never recover from this feud, which has split the tribe in two.

With half of the family supporting one individual and the other supporting the other, a massive feud might result in some dubious decisions being done in order to receive the money.

This could include a family member stealing the inheritance without informing anyone else, leaving the clan guessing who the thief is.

Pointing fingers at one other could lead to an even wider rift, and as their fight escalates, other village people may become involved.

It might turn into a battle of the Dales, with friends turning against friends in a conflict over what is right and wrong.

Steve, the actor who plays Zak, commented on playing the renowned character for two decades in 2014, revealing that he wasn’t expected to remain on the program for as long as he was.

The actor claimed to Good Morning Britain that he was only meant to appear in two episodes of the show.

He stated, ” “That was the initial contract: to fight and lose a fight with an established figure, Ned Glover.

“I was only there to serve as a counterbalance for his character, but I must have done something great since they kept bringing me back!

“To be honest, I have no idea how it happened. They’d bring folks in and let them try things out for a while, then see whether they liked it and invite them back.”

In 2019, the actor had to bid farewell to his long-time co-star Jane Cox, who played Zak’s wife Lisa, after she decided to leave the role.

Despite the fact that the couple’s rocky narrative in the village came to a painful end, Steve indicated that he understood why she had to go.

“Well, I was upset – but I know Jane very well, and I knew there were other things she needed to do than do what we’ve done together for 20-odd years,” the soap star explained.

“So yes I was sad initially, although as she’s my friend in real life, I knew it might be on the way. So it came gently, rather than as a sudden shock.”

However, they do stay in touch despite not appearing on-screen together anymore.

He told Inside Soap Magazine: “We do keep in touch, but mostly by letter. Jane loves getting my letters instead of a text or an email.

“She likes getting letters which she can look back on and think, ‘Oh, that’s how it was’.

“Then she writes back to me in a traditional letter too,” he explained.

Will viewers be bidding farewell to one of the show’s most beloved characters so he can finally reunite with his darling Lisa?
