Home and Away’s Kyle Shilling has given a hilarious interview to Emily Weir about his character Mali.
Home and Away returns to our screens next week, but during its break, the show’s official Instagram account has kept fans entertained with a special series, A Touch of Salt with Emily Weir.
In this Instagram series, Emily, who plays Mackenzie Booth, sits down with her fellow cast members to ask them fun and lighthearted questions, giving fans a chance to see the real people behind their favorite characters.
For the second episode, Kyle Shilling (who plays Mali Hudson) joined Emily for a fun-filled chat. The duo shared plenty of laughs, starting with an important topic—how Mali’s dance moves compare to Kyle’s in real life. Kyle showed off some moves that left Emily exclaiming, “That was better than Raygun!”
Since Mali and Mac are housemates on Home and Away, Emily also asked Kyle what he thought would annoy Mali the most about living with Mac, leading to more playful banter between the two co-stars.
“I think it’s always being told to stay out of their house when there is….” Kyle said before giving a giant wink to the camera. “[Redacted] happening.”
“It’s just a lot of intimacy,” he continued, about Mac’s torrid love affair with Levi. “And it’s like, Mali get out.”
Kyle also opened up about what he’s learned since joining Home and Away in 2023.
“Well before working here, I was a slow learner. I couldn’t maintain things in my head as well. I think working at such a fast pace here, I realised that a bit more,” Kyle said. “Being here, training certain parts of my brain, I can look at it now and go ‘oh okay, sweet that’s what I’m doing’.”
Emily said she felt the same about learning lines and learning scenes, saying there was a part of her brain that grew from the repetitive nature of the scenes on the soap.
Home and Away star reveals secret crush on the show: ‘Very sexy’
The episode with Kyle comes not long after Emily’s first episode with Ally Harris, who plays Dana Matheson on Home and Away.
Kicking things off on a light-hearted note, Emily asked Ally who Dana would have a crush on if it weren’t for Xander. “I’m not saying this to flatter you, I’m not,” Ally said. “But Mackenzie is a very sexy woman.”
Opening up more, Ally talked about what being on the popular soap had taught her about herself.
“This job has been a great place to practice stuff I already knew about myself that I am trying to get better at,” Ally said. “I’m not an incredibly direct person, this job has really taught me when to respectfully stand up for myself, to articulate boundaries on set with colleagues and things like that, and I never really did that before.”
