Coronation Street fans have expressed shock over the return of Clayton Hibbs, questioning whether he could really be Shona Platt’s son after his surprising appearance this week.

David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) was seen holding a letter from Weatherfield Prison Services in Monday’s episode (November 11), but his wife, Shona (Julia Golding), interrupted him before he could read it. David later confided in his brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) about receiving a visiting order from Clayton, played by Callum Harrison since 2016. Nick advised David to tell Shona the truth, as she would eventually find out, prompting David to make a plan.

David later visited Clayton in prison, though it remains unclear whether he will reveal this to Shona. Some fans, however, were distracted by Clayton’s changed appearance, sparking speculation that the role had been recast. One fan on Reddit commented, “I thought he looked older than David! Not sure if it’s the same actor, but prison has aged him.” Another fan questioned Clayton’s age, noting he seemed older than Shona and wondered how that would fit with the character’s backstory.

There’s confusion about Clayton’s age, with viewers pointing out that he appears to be in his late 20s, while Shona, in her early 40s, seems much younger. One fan remarked, “Clayton looks older than Shona, making it hard to believe he’s her son.”

As the storyline unfolds, David will face even more tension when he learns that Shona is upset after receiving news from the police that Clayton has been hospitalized. The mystery around what happened to Clayton, and whether Shona will learn the truth, continues to build.

Fans may remember that Clayton was responsible for the brutal murder of David’s wife, Kylie Platt (Paula Lane), in 2016, resulting in his lengthy prison sentence.
