Joel Deering was outed as Lauren Bolton’s killer to the audience of Coronation Street last night.
Coronation Street fans seem to think that there could soon be another murder on the ITV cobbles following the death of Lauren Bolton.
Joel Deering (played by Calum Lill) has been counting on Nathan Curtis’ (Christopher Harper) conviction sticking, knowing that he was actually the one behind the crime. But Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) and Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) were aware that Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) had been plotting to plant one of Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) hairs in Nathan’s van, framing him – meaning they know Nathan may be innocent after all.
Tonight on the soap, Daniel has been having doubts about what he knows. Bethany told him that journalists were trying to speak to her about Nathan’s arrest when Daniel told her it was best “not to say a word”. He went on to say that the evidence was “dodgy” as Sarah had planned to plant the hair.
He said: “Your mum was going to plant that evidence, wasn’t she? And then the police just happen to find Lauren’s hair in Nathan’s van? I mean, can you say coincidence?”
But Bethany still thought Nathan was to blame as she replied: “I don’t even care if it was planted. It doesn’t mean he’s not guilty.”
Daniel said he “still didn’t like it” as he fretted about what would happen if it came out that Nathan was framed. He said: “The police are going to need something else, aren’t they?”
That was when Bethany suggested that Ellie knew who it was that attacked Lauren, but was too scared to say. She suggested that they reach out to the young prostitute again to see if she would open up, now that Nathan was in prison.
After some coercion, Ellie decided to speak to Bethany but only if she went alone. In an emotional meeting, Bethany explained that she had been through similar experiences to Ellie. Eventually, Ellie promised to tell Bethany everything, including who attacked her and killed Lauren.
Bethany held up an image of Nathan as she asked: “Is this him? Is he the person that attacked you and could he be the person that killed Lauren?” Ellie replied: “Yeah. That’s him.”
But another twist revealed itself as Bethany left, happy with the answers she had recieved from Ellie. Joel suddenly appeared and put his hand on Ellie’s shoulder, praising her for spinning a fresh web of lies, as he had been listening in from another room.
The killer said: “You did the right thing”, before taking his wallet out and handing her some cash. He looked off into the distance eerily as he said: “Bye bye Bethany”.
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) seemed to think that Joel could strike again, and his next victim was “sealed”. One user wrote: “Bethany could be playing with fire here #Corrie”.
Another warned: “#corrie Bethany is playing with fire hope she stays safe”. Someone suggested: “Joel might kill Bethany next OMFG #Corrie”. Meanwhile, somebody wrote: “Joel holy what a monster you really are! Bye bye Bethany #corrie”.
Someone else said: “Bethany is definitely Joel’s next target #Corrie.” Another user added: “Looks like Bethany is next. #Corrie.”
