Despite a difficult year in which he continued his grueling battle with brain cancer, former Home & Away star Johnny Ruffo appears like he’s ready to face 2022 with a smile if his girlfriend’s latest Instagram photo is any indication!
A grinning Tahnee Sims and Johnny seemed happy than ever as they celebrated the new year in a romantic photo posted to her Instagram account, with Tahnee captioned the photo, “2022 with you.”
Fans of the couple remarked on how well Johnny appeared to be doing despite his cancer struggle, with one admirer saying, “Nice to see you both happy and well!”
Another added, “What a way to start my day seeing both your lovely smiling faces.”
Alum from X-Factor Johnny has kept followers updated on his health struggle since he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017 and later confirmed he had been given the all-clear in 2019.
However, in November 2020, Johnny revealed the devastating news that his cancer had returned in an Instagram post.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have to let you know that after an unexpected week of seizures and severe headaches, I now have another enormous struggle ahead of me as my brain cancer has returned,” he said with a photo of himself and Tahnee.
He continued: “Though i will dig deep and beat this sh*t disease again #f*ckcancer”.
Fortunately, the actor’s treatment appears to be going well, as he disclosed in September that he was getting chemotherapy and was “doing well.”
“Cracking day for a walk 👫🏼☀️” Johnny, 33, penned at the time on Instagram alongside another snap with Tahnee.
“Just thought i’d jump on and give an update… I’m still kicking along with my chemotherapy treatment, feeling pretty exhausted but I’m doing great otherwise & not giving up the fight 💪🏽 Thanks for all the support!!”
Johnny revealed his cancer diagnosis to Now to Love last month and hailed his loving girlfriend with perhaps sparing his life.
“Without her, I may not be here,” he revealed.
“When the headaches first started, she was the one who forced me to get in the car and drive to the hospital. She’s also motivating me to try new things. She motivates me to exercise by encouraging me to go for runs and swims.”
Johnny proceeded to gush over his sweetheart, claiming that laughter was the key to their perseverance in the face of adversity.
“We’re just having a good time. We have a lot of fun making each other laugh. Do you know that gut-wrenching chuckle that makes your eyes well up with tears? “The X Factor contestant elaborated.
“We argue and fight just like every other couple, but we make up too. We kiss and makeup you know?”
He continued by saying that their bond has never been stronger, especially after everything they’ve been through.
“We’ve been through so much together now. The longer we stay together, the stronger the bond.”
