Amanda Setton has consistently displayed the fortitude of a true Quartermaine in her role as Brook Lynn Ashton. This was very clear in her recent scenes on General Hospital when Brook Lynn confronted her adored and irritable “Granny” Tracy.
Amanda Setton – Performer of the Week
Brook Lynn demanded an audience with her grandmother after discovering that Tracy (Jane Elliot) is the cause of the issues Deception is having — her backgammon match with Finn (Michael Easton) be damned! Tracy tried to explain to Brook Lynn that she was playing a game, but she wasn’t because BLQ knocked the board off the table and the pieces fell to the ground. To Tracy’s surprise, Brook Lynn remarked, “Now, you’re not.”
Why did you do that? Brook Lynn pressed Tracy to explain why she had injured her colleagues at the cosmetics company. Tracy dissuaded her granddaughter’s worries by stating that Tracy’s great-grandfather Edward (the late, great David Lewis) thought there were no friends in business.
The two women quickly traded blows while rehashing their previous transactions. Brook Lynn muttered, “You used me. Tracy remarked, “You used me to get Chase [Josh Swickard] his job back. Brook Lynn was determined to learn why Tracy made the deliberate decision to harm her friends and coworkers.
As viewers of General Hospital and Tracy fans are well aware, Tracy can respond to a quip more quickly than anyone else, frequently putting other characters off their game in the process. However, Setton portrays Brook Lynn as actually being Tracy’s granddaughter. She obviously got some of Granny’s assertiveness and tenacity. Brook Lynn quickly responded that Luke’s death had hardened her when Tracy suggested that her love for Chase had made her softer. Good job, Brook Lynn!
Do you realize that not only have you destroyed a company, but also dreams? Granny was told by Brook Lynn. Who plans to sabotage people’s lives, Tracy? Brook Lynn posed a rhetorical query. Oh, wait, I’m sorry, a Quartermaine, of course. Look at how well that worked out for this family, though. Brook Lynn fired off her final remark to her father’s mother without losing any of her rage: “No wonder my dad woke up thinking he was someone else. Who would desire to be your child? (Ouch.)
Amanda Setton left us praising her excellent acting skills, going up against Elliot, and for portraying her character as a woman who cares fervently for those she loves. Brook Lynn left the room on that painful but accurate feeling, leaving Tracy behind to consider her granddaughter’s words. Bravo! Weekdays, ABC broadcasts General Hospital.
