Danny Dyer is gearing up for his debut in the steamy new Disney Plus series Rivals, taking on the role of self-made businessman Freddie Jones.
EastEnders star Danny Dyer is stepping into a new role in the Disney Plus series Rivals, inspired by Jilly Cooper’s racy book series of the same name.
Premiering tomorrow, Rivals boasts a star-studded lineup, featuring David Tennant, Katherine Parkinson, and Aiden Turner.
The ensemble cast also includes Alex Hassell, Nafessa Williams, Bella Maclean, Victoria Smurfit, Lisa McGrillis, Emily Atack, Luke Pasqualino, Catriona Chandler, Gabriel Tierney, Gary Lamont, and Lara Peake.
In the drama, Danny stars alongside Lisa McGrillis, who plays his on-screen wife, Valerie Jones, reports the Manchester Evening News. Off-screen, the 47-year-old actor enjoys a quiet family life with his childhood sweetheart, Joanne Mas, with whom he shares three children.
As fans eagerly await Danny’s portrayal of self-made businessman Freddie Jones, let’s take a closer look at his life
Who is Danny Dyer’s wife?
Danny Dyer is married to Joanne Mas, his childhood sweetheart. The couple has been together for over 20 years, having first met at school when they were just 14 years old.
Before Danny’s rise to fame on EastEnders, Joanne was the primary earner in their household, working as a financial adviser.
In 2015, she took the initiative by proposing to Danny, and the couple tied the knot the following year in an intimate ceremony in Hampshire.
Reflecting on their wedding, Danny told Hello! magazine, “To be standing here with the girl I grew up with—looking so beautiful in her wedding dress—is such a lovely thing. Jo is my best girl, the love of my life. Without her, I’d be nothing.”
These days, the pair enjoy a peaceful life in their luxurious Essex home, which features a large DIY outdoor “igloo” and a private gym.
Does Danny Dyer have children?
Danny Dyer and his wife Joanne Mas are proud parents of three children and grandparents to three little ones.
Their eldest daughter, Dani Dyer, 28, rose to fame by winning Love Island in 2018 alongside her then-partner Jack Fincham.
In 2021, Dani welcomed her first child, a son named Santiago, with her ex-partner Sammy Kimmence, who was later sentenced to three and a half years in prison for defrauding pensioners.
Dani has since found happiness with West Ham footballer Jarrod Bowen. The couple welcomed twin daughters, Summer and Star, in May 2023 and announced their engagement in July 2024.
In addition to Dani, Danny and Joanne have two more children: 17-year-old Sunnie and six-year-old Arty.
The synopsis for Danny Dyer’s upcoming drama Rivals reads: “Set in 1986 England, Rivals adapts the second book of Jilly Cooper’s Rutshire Chronicles and follows the notorious womanizer and former showjumper, Rupert Campbell-Black, who shifts gears into politics. Rupert partners with his new neighbor, Declan O’Hara, to take down Lord Tony Baddingham, an unscrupulous TV tycoon, by competing for his independent television franchise in the Cotswolds.
However, their plans are thrown into turmoil when Rupert embarks on a romance with Declan’s innocent daughter, Taggie O’Hara. The drama intensifies with a love triangle involving Rupert, Tony, and Tony’s brilliant American producer, Cameron Cook, while Declan navigates a turbulent marriage to his glamorous actress wife, Maud.
In this ruthless world of television, where betrayal lurks at every turn, the question remains: can genuine love truly survive?”
