Instead of the festive season being the most wonderful time of the year, in soap operas, Christmas often brings the most dramatic moments, as soaps compete to deliver the most intense storylines.

However, EastEnders’ major Christmas storyline has reportedly been leaked after an actress accidentally left her script on a train. The script was returned to Albert Square after a passenger discovered it on the Thameslink train at Elstree & Borehamwood station in Hertfordshire on the morning of October 31.

Marked as ‘rehearsal scripts,’ the pages disclosed that a major character will face a shocking end this Christmas in a surprising plot twist. The passenger’s wife told the publication, “There’s a major twist, and a prominent character is killed off. It’s a remarkable storyline.”

She added, “It was clear that the script belonged to an EastEnders actress because her lines were highlighted, and Post-it notes with handwritten notes were attached to the pages. There was also a page showing her filming schedule in pencil. We wanted to return the script to her.”

Though they didn’t reveal the actress’s name, the passenger’s wife explained that they attempted to contact her on Instagram to let her know about the found script but didn’t receive a response. After waiting for four days, she reached out, which then returned the script to EastEnders, to the relief of the production team.

The front cover of the script listed the production team members and the scheduled filming dates. The first two episodes in the script were filmed from October 14 to November 1, while the third episode’s filming dates were from November 4 to 15. With production typically running six to eight weeks ahead of airing, it’s likely these scenes will feature in the Christmas episodes.

An EastEnders representative told The Sun, “A big thank you to The Sun for safely returning our festive scripts. We know how much fans enjoy watching the drama unfold, so we’re grateful to keep our surprises under wraps for this Christmas and beyond.”

reached out to EastEnders for further comment.

Meanwhile, former EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison has secured a new role following a period where she sold memorabilia to make ends meet. Cheryl, who portrayed Heather Trott, left the soap in 2012 when her character was killed in a whodunit plot. After her exit, she faced difficulties finding acting work and turned to selling old BBC scripts and memorabilia on Instagram.

Cheryl recently announced that she will play the Fairy Godmother in a Christmas production of Cinderella in Peterborough, sharing an Instagram update with a poster and behind-the-scenes photos.

Earlier this month, Cheryl shared in an interview that selling items online helped her stay financially stable. She said, “There’s unofficial merchandise sold online, but I wanted true fans to have something authentic from my EastEnders days.

“People need to understand that actors, like anyone, need to make a living. We don’t always have the chance to work in our chosen field consistently. I don’t want any issues, and maybe £50 doesn’t seem like much to some, but it helps cover bills and essentials. Just like anyone else, I’ll keep buying and selling—and paying taxes on it.”
