Iconic EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison has defended her decision to sell old scripts from the show as she faces financial difficulties.

The 59-year-old is widely recognized for her role as Heather Trott, which she portrayed from 2007 until 2012, when her character was shockingly killed off in a dramatic storyline. Since leaving the soap, Cheryl has appeared in the comedy drama film White Island, the TV series Dodger, and the mockumentary sitcom Hard Cell, among other projects. She has also established a notable career in theater, frequently participating in the panto season, with recent performances as the fairy in Jack and the Beanstalk and the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. Despite these roles, Cheryl has admitted to struggling to make ends meet and has started selling her old EastEnders scripts to help cover her expenses.

In her defense, Cheryl explained that she ensures all her earnings are reported and doesn’t believe there is any conflict in selling BBC memorabilia. She pointed out that some fans are being misled into purchasing fake EastEnders items from online sellers.

Speaking to magazine, Cheryl shared, “I was informed years ago that after a certain period, this was acceptable to do. I have donated scripts to various charities in the past, providing them for auctions to raise money.”

She continued, “There is unofficial merchandise being sold online and in various places, so I wanted to offer true fans a chance to own something from my era on EastEnders. People need to understand that we have to earn a living; we aren’t always fortunate enough to be filming consistently and working in our trained professions. I see nothing wrong in what I’m doing when I’ve been told it’s permissible.”

Cheryl added, “I don’t want to get into trouble at all. While £50 may not seem like much to some, it can make a difference in paying rising bills or providing food and shelter, just like anyone else earning a living. I will continue to buy and sell and pay taxes on it.”

In recent weeks, Cheryl has used her social media to inform fans about unique items from the EastEnders set that she is selling. She wrote on Instagram, “Email for info… if you’re a fan, this is a must-have. If you want to give someone a unique gift, here’s your chance, or you can treat yourself to a bit of history.”
