Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle Dingle, has admitted that she is “so upset” about a big change that happened on Emmerdale.
Eden has been a part of several heartbreaking storylines on the ITV soap opera since she was eight years old, playing Belle Dingle.
As Belle prepares to wed James Chase’s character, Tom King, things are beginning to look up, but fans have noticed something strange about Tom because of his domineering behavior.
Eden has provided details about an upcoming plotline in which Tom is keen for her to adopt his last name, ahead of next week’s wedding scenes.
Belle, though, is adamant about keeping her Dingle identity since she dislikes being referred to as a King.
Eden gave The Mirror an explanation for her character’s decision to stick with the name: “I think she’s so passionate to keep her name as she is Dingle and proud to be so.”
She finds great meaning in the Dingle name. And I believe that’s particularly because her mother isn’t there.”
“I think that absence and their name is such a symbol for Belle,” she went on. Tom wishes to carry on the King family legacy since he is no longer with his parents.”
“So I believe a mix of those factors is involved. Though he does not really put pressure on her, he does give his justifications for wanting to carry on the King name. She had simply thought she could remain a Dingle, he said.
Eden is left feeling “so upset” when Belle ultimately chooses to adopt Tom’s last name.
As she embarks on a new chapter in her character’s life, the soap opera’s crew has done everything in their power to make her feel like a Dingle.
“I am so upset to lose the Dingle name,” she revealed. To be honest, I said, “No,” when I saw it in the script.
“I went upstairs to the scheduling department, where each family is color-coded on the wall,” the woman said further. It’s pink for the Dingles. My entire life, I have been essentially pink.
“However, the Kings are entirely different in color. Thank goodness, the scheduling team has allowed me to remain pink, so I still consider myself an honorary Dingle. I hope I’ll always be considered a Dingle by the Dingles.”
